02 A note from the founder

"Aesthetic medicine deserves the same intellectual rigour as any other clinical discipline. The Academy is built on that conviction."

Dr Souphi Samizadeh founded GBAAM in 2015 to formalise the postgraduate training pathway she could not find as a young clinician. A decade on, the Academy holds its scientific symposium at the Royal Society of Medicine, has trained more than six thousand doctors across two hundred and fifty hospitals, and remains the smallest faculty in aesthetic medicine that we know of — a deliberate choice.

03 Our standard of care

Ultrasound-guided as standard.

Every workshop in the injectable curriculum — toxins, fillers, threads, regenerative — is taught with high-resolution ultrasound at the bench. Not as a specialism. Not as an add-on. As the floor.

The reason is clinical, not aspirational: ultrasound visualisation reduces vascular complications, improves placement accuracy, and produces practitioners who can read the face they are treating, rather than working from surface anatomy alone.

  1. Live high-resolution ultrasound at every injection bench
  2. Vascular mapping before treatment planning
  3. Needle-tip visualisation and tissue-plane awareness
  4. Complication recognition with escalation practice

04 The curriculum

Two pathways. One faculty.
Twenty-four courses across the discipline.

Foundations are taken online — the science a clinician needs before a needle is loaded. Workshops are taken in London, in small cohorts, with faculty over the shoulder. Most candidates take both.

In-person · Workshops 20 workshops · 7 tracks

Small-cohort in-person workshops in London, taught with faculty over the shoulder and ultrasound-guided safety at the centre.

05 The faculty

Seventeen clinicians.
Seven countries.

Plastic surgery, dermatology, neurology, maxillofacial.
A deliberately small faculty. Each member teaches in their own clinical area. All of them practise.

06 A short history

A decade of postgraduate aesthetic training.

From a single training day in London to a faculty of seventeen across seven countries. The milestones the Academy has set itself, in order.

2015

GBAAM founded in London

Established by Dr Souphi Samizadeh as a postgraduate training pathway for doctors and dentists working in aesthetic medicine.

2016

First international conference, Shanghai

Inaugural GBAAM conference held in Shanghai. The faculty's first overseas teaching engagement and the beginning of the international roster.

2017

Scientific symposium · Royal Society of Medicine, London

First scientific symposium held at the Royal Society of Medicine, focused on the evidence base for botulinum toxin A in aesthetic indications.

2019

6,000 doctors trained · 250 hospitals

By the close of 2019, alumni count crossed six thousand clinicians, drawn from more than two hundred and fifty hospitals.

2026

This is the benchmark that all aesthetic courses should strive for. Whether you are new to the profession or an experienced injector looking to update your skills, I could not recommend the Academy more highly.

10 Take a place at the Academy

Apply, subscribe,
or speak to the registrar.

Every applicant is reviewed by a member of faculty. We accept doctors and dentists with a current licence to practise. Other healthcare professionals are considered on a case-by-case basis.

The application is short: credentials, motivation, intended pathway. We will respond within five working days.

11 Common questions

Questions a doctor would ask.

Concise answers. If yours is not here, write to the registrar. Every email is read by a member of faculty within two working days.

01 Is the curriculum CPD-accredited?

Yes. The academy curriculum is CPD-accredited and structured for professional development evidence.

02 Is this appropriate for my clinical background?

Applications are reviewed against professional registration, current scope of practice, and the pathway requested.

03 How do online courses and workshops relate?

The online pathway builds clinical foundations. The workshop pathway adds supervised hands-on practice and ultrasound-guided anatomy.

04 Can my practice fund this training?

Many candidates expense postgraduate CPD through their practice or employer, but tax and reimbursement treatment depends on local arrangements.

05 Are workshop places open to all applicants?

No. Workshop eligibility depends on the cohort, clinical background, and registration status. The academy confirms suitability before a place is reserved.

06 Where are in-person cohorts held?

Published cohorts are listed with their location. London and Hampstead workshop settings are prioritised for GBAAM public cohorts.
